Frequently asked questions

Asking for help is a good place to start.

For anyone at risk of losing their home, there are many questions. Sadly, we don't always have the answer. What we will do, is try to find you the people who can help when we can't. We will also stand by your side until you're ready to walk independently again.

If you are homeless or at risk of homelessness, we can help you register with Housing Options at Ipswich Borough Council. Contact us at the Chapman Centre or email  housingservices@ihag.co.uk.  Or you can contact Housing Options direct on 01473 432000 (options 3, 2, 2)

We can also provide you with rental agencies if you are looking for private rented accommodation.

ihAg doesn’t have any emergency accommodation.

However, Ipswich Borough Council do provide emergency accommodation. You will need to call their Housing Options team on 01473 432000 and let them know you are homeless. They have an assessment process to decide who is eligible for accommodation.

All of our services are based at the Chapman Centre, our "Homeless Hub" which is open 6 days a week offering support and advice for anyone with queries regarding losing a home, either via the telephone and face to face. Our Advocacy Workers can also help with the completion of applications & bidding for social housing on the Gateway to Homechoice choice based lettings system. The Centre also offers practical help such as showers, laundry facilities, a postal address service (including a letter for evidence of proof of address and/or that you are using the Centre), and emergency food parcels.

If you are looking for support please call us on 01473 232426

Ipswich Borough Council do have emergency accommodation and if they register with them (01473 432000), they can assess if they are eligible.

We can provide essential personal items and refer for food parcels; and the Chapman Centre can offer showers and a laundry service.

We also provide a free and confidential advocacy service where we can discuss options including benefts that might be available, and a possible referral to HSBC's basic bank account, a specialist service for people who are homeless..

Please call the Chapman Centre for more information.

Our  Advocates are able to support you to maximise your income and can apply for grants on your behalf.

We cannot provide advice on your debts or insolvency, including bankruptcy and Debt Relief Orders,  However, we can support you to complete a budget and contact the relevant agencies who are able to help with your debt situation.

We manage 11 properties across Ipswich, providing shared accommodation for single people. Residents have their own lockable room, but need to share bathrooms and kitchens with the other residents – usually no more than three other people.

Unfortunately we are unable to help people move house.

Unfortunately, our properties can only accommodate single people and we are not able to take pets.

You can arrange an appointment with an Advocate at the Chapman Centre, who could make a referral, or you can contact us directly by calling the Centre or by email on housingservices@ihag.co.uk.

If you have already contacted Ipswich Borough Council Housing Options they can also make referrals.

Talk to our advocates to see what is best for you.
