There are many reasons why someone becomes homeless, it could be the breakup of a relationship, an addiction, or the loss of a job that has meant rent couldn’t be paid.
You don’t have to be sleeping rough to access our services, you may be living in bed and breakfasts, sleeping on friend’s floors or living somewhere that you don’t feel is safe or secure.
The Centre is here to provide a safe place for people to come and get confidential advice, support and guidance in a relaxed non-judgemental way.
The Chapman Centre staff are here to help rebuild trust and empower individuals to gain control of their lives and their situations.
Accessing the Centre Services
Come along to the Centre between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday to speak to one of our Advisers who will sit down with you and help with any issue you may have from trying to find safe accommodation to understanding benefits sanctions.
If you have any concerns about your health, the Advisers can refer you to the Healthcare Clinic which runs between 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday to Friday.
There are other things the Centre can help with such as being a postal address for you. Having an address for all your post to go to can make differences to your life for example, it’s unusual to be able to open a bank account if you don’t have a postal address. You will also be able to make any necessary telephone calls and use the internet on one of our computers.
The Centre also has shower facilities which include the use of towels and toiletries and keeps a small supply of clothing.
On most days a hot lunch for £1 is served from our kitchen – please ask our Receptionist when you arrive at the Centre for more information.
A Healthcare clinic, provided by the NHS Health Outreach, is available from Tuesday to Friday between 10 a.m. to 11 a.m..
Appointments with an Adviser
The Centre closes at 2 p.m. each day however, on two afternoons a week (currently Wednesdays and Thursdays), we are able to offer appointments for clients between 2.30pm and 5:00pm. Sometimes during the morning, the Centre can become quite busy and noisy and these afternoon appointments are ideal for people who prefer a quieter setting when discussing their personal issues.
To book an afternoon appointment please come to the Centre in the morning and speak to an Adviser.
MAX – Meaningful Activities
From 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays we run activity sessions for clients at the Centre. This could be anything from jigsaw puzzles to indoor curling! Whatever the session, you are bound to have fun.
If you are interested in joining in please talk to the Receptionist on duty or our MAX Coordinator.
